FAQ
Q1. What is the difference between the old Net Metering & the new Net Billing policy?
Under the new 2026 regulations, Pakistan has transitioned toward a Net Billing framework. While the old system allowed a nearly 1-to-1 unit exchange, Net Billing separates the price of electricity you buy from the grid (approx. Rs. 50–60/unit) and the price at which you sell excess energy back (approx. Rs. 11/unit).
Q2. With the current electricity tariffs, what is the typical Payback Period for a solar system in 2026?
Despite policy changes, solar remains the best investment against inflation.
On-Grid Systems: Typically pay for themselves within 3 to 4 years due to the massive reduction in monthly bills.
Hybrid Systems (with Batteries): These have a slightly longer payback of 5 to 6 years but provide the added value of 24/7 power backup during load shedding, which is invaluable for Pakistani households and businesses.
Q3. Should I install an On-Grid system or a Hybrid system with the current export rates?
In 2026, the choice depends on your priority:
Choose On-Grid if your primary goal is the lowest upfront cost and maximum bill reduction during the day.
Choose Hybrid if you want to store your excess daytime energy in Lithium-ion batteries to use at night. Because the export rate (selling to the grid) is now lower, “storing and using your own units” is often more financially rewarding than selling them back to the DISCO.
